“Let's expose the addictive methods of nicotine and tobacco!!” In line with the theme of World No Tobacco Day, May 23, the Akaki Qaliti Branch Office is carrying out awareness-raising activities focused on the harms of tobacco and the methods that promote tobacco addiction among various segments of the society.

It has been indicated that the branch is working extensively to expose the misleading strategies and health hazards used by the tobacco industry, especially marketing and advertising strategies that encourage tobacco addiction, misleading product presentation methods to attract young people, and false messages that hide the harms of tobacco, in order to prevent young people from getting addicted to nicotine and to promote a healthy tobacco-free life.

The General Manager of the Branch Office, Ato Demis Gebrewold, stated that the initiated activity will help achieve the vision set for creating a comfortable and healthy city for residents, and to reduce tobacco-related non-communicable diseases and deaths. He stated that it is being worked on with attention.

Stating that strong policy implementation, awareness creation and practical support of stakeholders are needed to control tobacco, the manager exposed the deceptive tactics of the tobacco industry and conveyed a message that every citizen should take responsibility to protect themselves and society from the effects of tobacco smoke in order to prevent the severe damage that tobacco and nicotine addiction cause to health, economy and family.
