Addis Ababa Food and Drug Authority has achieved an average of 96% of its nine-month plan for the 2018 fiscal year.

The results achieved by the authority in the nine-month plan for the 2018 fiscal year demonstrate the effectiveness of the institution’s competency and regulatory services to protect the health of the community.

The authority has enhanced its performance by implementing a number of activities and strengthening its coordination system to create a city where quality and safe food and drug services are provided and to ensure the quality and safety of drugs and related products.

In the nine months, the authority was able to protect the community from dangerous and substandard products by implementing a competency and strengthened regulatory system and taking appropriate action against illegal activities.

The main results of the implementation are strengthening food and tobacco control systems, ensuring that food and health services provided in the city meet standards, preventing establishments operating without qualification, strengthening risk-based inspection and self-regulation systems of establishments.

It is indicated that the authority will continue to focus on strengthening the organizational system and strengthen the control of food, tobacco and sun-sensitive products in coordination with the relevant agencies, the health bureau and other institutions, ensuring that products produced in the city meet standards and improving product registration, preventing establishments operating without qualification, strengthening information management and an organized data system, expanding post-market surveillance and taking action against illegal products, ensuring consistency in product sampling, action and disposal processes, as future focus areas.
