The Addis Ababa Food and Drug Authority (ADDA) held a discussion forum with stakeholders regarding the implementation of the 2018 budget plan and the 1st quarter plan.
The discussion forum was attended by the Head of the Branch Office, Ato Demise Gebreweld, members of the Health Forum, members of the youth organization, employees of the business community, health institutions, and other stakeholders.
The discussion forum was attended by the Director of Food and Health Quality Control, Ato Gudeta Taye, and the Director of Food and Health Quality Assurance, Ms. Ondaneesh Hussein, who presented the 2018 budget plan of the branch office, and the performance of the 2018 budget quarter.
The participants of the forum stated that the work done by the branch office in the first quarter of the fiscal year has significant significance in protecting the health of the community, but they also stressed the need to improve the health care in schools, provide awareness to the community, strictly monitor the traditional medicine provided, ensure that the food served to the community is clean and does not harm health, and work together to prevent expired medicines from being sold in the market.
Addis Ababa Food and Drug Authority (AfDA) Head of the A/FDA Office, Ato Demise Gebreweld, responded to questions and comments raised from the audience and pointed out that in the first quarter of the fiscal year, health institutions were brought up to standard, strong regulatory work was carried out and action was taken against entities that expose the community to various health hazards, expired medicines were removed from food and beverages, health institutions’ qualification certificates were renewed and registered, more than 1600 vulnerable residents were provided with free medical services in coordination with institutions, and many other works were carried out.
The head also said that since health is the foundation of everything, institutions should operate in accordance with legal procedures and that any actions that harm the health of the community or professional misconduct should be reported.
Finally, a recognition program was held for health facilities, pharmacies, and other institutions that were working in collaboration with the branch office.
