The branch office reviewed its performance for the first six months of the 2018 fiscal year with stakeholders.
The Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the authority, Ato Enga Ereketa, who attended the forum, said that the authority has carried out many works to protect the health of the community, to prevent illegal drug trafficking and similar illegal activities in the food and health sectors, based on the tools and in coordination with stakeholders through regular inspections. He said that preventing and reporting illegal practices in various areas to ensure the safety of food and health services provided is helpful in achieving better results in the health sector.
A report showing the performance of the past six months was presented by the institution's expert, Ato Girma Temesgen, for discussion.
The branch's General Manager, Ato Fintahun Tadesse, stated that over 24 million birr of expired food, health products, and medicines were removed from the market without causing any harm to the community through the quality assurance and inspection activities carried out in the food and health sectors. He said that 171 institutions were given written warnings and 8 of them were closed down.
Finally, a joint discussion was held and since the participation of stakeholders and the community is crucial for the institution to fulfill its responsibilities, the community was asked to provide suggestions regarding illegal food preparation, drug trafficking, and substandard service delivery.
