Kolfe Branch Office Reports Significant Progress in Public Health Protection Over the Past Six Months

Date: January 16, 2026 (Reported for the Ethiopian Budget Year 2018)

The Addis Ababa Food and Drug Authority (AAFDA) Kolfe Branch Office conducted a consultative forum with stakeholders, health forums, youth and women’s associations, and business owners in the food and medicine sector. The discussion focused on the six-month performance report of the current budget year and the implementation of relevant rules and regulations.

During the meeting, the branch office presented its performance report alongside documents regarding Hygiene and Sanitation directives and proclamations.

Sister Munira Negash, Manager of the Kolfe Branch Office, stated that the office has carried out extensive activities within its mandate over the past six months. She highlighted that in the process of controlling and preventing illegal practices, the office successfully disposed of food, beverages, health-related products, and medicines valued at 4,971,190 ETB.

The Manager further noted that legal action was taken against 72 institutions found engaging in illegal operations. She emphasized that public participation is irreplaceable in ensuring food and health service safety, urging citizens to take ownership of their health by reporting irregularities.

Participants raised concerns regarding the widespread sale of sun-exposed bottled water and beverages, infant formula, and illegal practices in flour mills and "Injera" production. They pledged to collaborate closely with the authority to strengthen monitoring and enforcement efforts.
