The Addis Ababa Food and Drug Authority of Addis Ababa has been carrying out tobacco prevention, control and mobilization activities involving youth organizations and stakeholders to make Addis Ababa free from tobacco smoke.
The office is also carrying out extensive mobilization work with youth organizations, law enforcement and police security agencies in line with the theme of "Let's expose the ways that lead to nicotine and tobacco addiction!" in line with the World No Tobacco Day.
Ato Demise Gebreweld, the Manager of the Food and Drug Administration Branch Office of the Ministry of Health, said that a wide range of activities are being carried out to protect the health of the community through tobacco and drug control and the prevention of various harmful activities. He said that continuous monitoring and control work is being carried out to bring institutions up to standard, and that extensive education and awareness-raising work is being carried out to educate young people about the complex health problems caused by tobacco and to prevent themselves from illegal activities.
He also indicated that by implementing the tobacco control guidelines stipulated by law, a wide-ranging campaign involving youth organizations and stakeholders is being carried out to protect the health of the community by creating a smoke-free environment and preventing tobacco use in public places and service providers.
