The Kirkos Branch Office reviewed its activities in the past 6 months with stakeholders, members of the Regulatory Forum, and the business community.
The Branch Office disposed of 2,487,366.03 birr worth of pharmaceutical products that could endanger the public’s health, as well as 580,428 birr worth of food and health-related materials in the first half of 2018.
The office reported that it had taken action against 26 food establishments, health-related establishments, and health facilities that were found to be operating below standard.
Kirkos Branch Office General Manager Sister Alemesh Abay mentioned that many activities have been carried out in the office in the past six months to protect public health and safety through regular monitoring and campaigns. In addition to the planned activities, effective activities have been carried out in terms of preventing theft and corruption, improving institutional efficiency, increasing employee and customer satisfaction, creating a comfortable work environment and improving services, and enhancing the participation system of the public, civil society and the private sector.
Kirkos City General Manager Dr. Akos Negash, who was present at the forum, said that since the authority is an institution entrusted with a great responsibility in protecting public health, it should maintain the results recorded in the past six months by strictly monitoring and controlling hotels and food service providers, as well as health service providers.
The General Manager also said that since health issues are not negotiable, in addition to the regulatory work carried out by the authority, community participation and suggestions play a significant role in preventing illegal practices, and that participation should be increased, recognizing that.
Finally, the forum discussed the implementation of the six-month plan and Proclamation 1112/2011, the Tobacco Control Law.
