Addis Ababa Food and Drug Authority held a joint discussion with investors, stakeholders and institutions that maintained national standards in the 2017 fiscal year and conducted a recognition program for institutions that are providing quality and safe services to the community.

At the recognition ceremony, the General Manager of the Authority, Mrs. Mulu Imebet Tadesse, welcomed the invited guests and said that recognizing and recognizing food and health-related institutions that are providing better services to the community encourages the institutions to improve their service delivery. She said that the Authority has done a lot of work to ensure that the food and health-related institutions that it supervises and supervises meet the standards that suit the city and provide better services to the community. Since food is life, the quality and safety of food from farm to fork should be ensured.
She conveyed a message that the community needs to be the owner of food quality and safety, and that the role of stakeholders in ensuring quality and safe food and health-related products is paramount. Although extensive work has been done on food and health-related products that are exposed to the sun, it is necessary to pay attention to the issue and work together in terms of non-communicable diseases.
The Deputy Director General of the Ethiopian Food and Drug Authority, Ato Negash Sime, was present at the event and said in his opening speech that if food does not follow the food chain from farm to fork, it will cause health damage and complex problems to humans, and that legal action should be taken against institutions that do not comply with standards.
The forum also discussed the work done by the Directorate of Food and Health Qualification Inspection, as well as the main activities carried out in the inspections, the findings obtained, and the measures taken.
In the conclusion of the forum, the General Manager of the Authority, Mrs. Mulu Imebet Tadesse, and the Deputy Director of the Food Sector of the Ethiopian Food and Drug Authority, Ato Negash Sime, emphasized that everyone should play their part in maintaining food quality and safety and addressing food-related issues. Since the challenge facing food is serious, it is necessary to control and expose greedy illegal traders. Institutions should use internal quality assurance methods. Food and health-related institutions should renew their certification from July 1 to December 30. Realizing that tobacco is everyone’s issue, it is necessary to make institutions completely free from tobacco smoke. Institutions should be independent and responsible and provide quality and safe food.
Finally, the leaders of the Authority and senior officials at all levels were presented with certificates of recognition to food and health-related institutions that have achieved good performance by maintaining standards and providing better services to the community.
