January/2018 A.D.
The Addis Ababa City Administration Food and Drug Authority announced that it has examined the procedures and conditions of traditional medicine institutions and the Traditional Medicine Management and Supervision Guideline 2006.
The authority conducted a survey on the procedures, treatment and standard maintenance of 98 traditional medicine institutions and discussed the findings.
The authority's Director of Health Institutions and Professionals Supervision, Ato Gelgelo Oljra, while presenting the findings of the survey, explained that the patient monitoring system is weak, the lack of a referral system, prescribing medicine using modern laboratory results, using medicine purchased from others, problems with raw material management, working in one room without preparing additional rooms, poor hygiene, and so on.
On the other hand, they added that there are institutions that can be role models by meeting the set standards.
The implementation of the Traditional Medicine Management and Control Directive No. 2006 with the existing situation was presented as a basis for discussion and a wide discussion was held.
The discussion was attended by the leaders of the authority and branches, management members, and Dr. Sisay, the Vice-Chairman of the Women and Children's Social Affairs Standing Committee of the Addis Ababa Assembly, and relevant parties.
Finally, the senior leaders of the authority provided a summary and direction for further attention.
