The Addis Ababa Food and Drug Authority achieved an average performance of 98.2 percent in the 2018 fiscal year to protect the health of the community.

During the fiscal year, the Authority renovated 3,801 health facilities and 15,058 food facilities, registered and renovated 23,940 health professionals, issued registration certificates to 112 traditional medicine facilities, and renovated 4,179 health service providers.

In terms of supervision, 3,456 health facilities and 17,606 health professionals were monitored and supervised.

22,101 food establishments were inspected for hygiene and health protection, and 3,650 health-related and food and beverage service establishments were subjected to risk-based hygiene and health protection inspections.
In addition, 33,317 establishments were inspected for tobacco.

During the fiscal year, the Authority took action against 1,542 establishments during its inspection and control work, and 4 individuals were prosecuted.

In addition, the Authority disposed of 194,924,932 spoiled and expired food and beverages worth 549,675,586.01 birr and 21,320.29 kg of medicines worth 549,675,586.01 birr to protect the health of the community.
