Addis Ababa City Administration Food and Drug Authority, in collaboration with MIS Ethiopian and Ethiopian Food and Drug, has provided capacity building training to branch office managers, sector experts from Ethiopian Food and Drug, and stakeholders based on the ongoing quality improvement of regulatory and inspection services in health and food institutions in the city.
The training aims to develop the knowledge, skills, and capacity of the regulatory body to improve the quality of services provided in the health and food sectors in the city, to provide quality and safe services in the city, and to increase the number of institutions with certification that meet the standards.
Addis Ababa City Council Women and Children Social Sector Standing Committee Chairperson Ms. Sophia Alemu said that although the authority is an institution that is bringing about visible changes in protecting the health of the community, as the health needs of the community are increasing from time to time, it is necessary for the authority to increase its capacity and strengthen the work of educating and creating awareness among those involved in illegal practices, in addition to taking action, to bring the government and the people closer together.
MSI Ethiopia Manager Ato Chala mentioned that the institution is carrying out various activities in coordination with government bodies to enhance the quality of health sector service delivery, and said that partner organizations outside the government bodies should play their part in working together to prevent illegal practices in various places and to ensure that the community receives quality and efficient services as desired.
The training focused on the nature and types of regulatory systems, the importance of regulation, the role and coordination of regulatory bodies, and internal and external regulatory activities.
