December 27, 2018 - Action to be taken against individuals who slaughter chickens illegally

The Addis Ababa City Administration Food and Drug Authority is organizing experts from the center and branch offices to ensure that food products offered for sale on the occasion of the holidays are healthy and to take action against those who have problems.

Accordingly, action will be taken against those who slaughter chickens in unsanitary places and sell them in packaging, said Ato Estefanos Getachew, Director of the Authority's Food and Health Control Directorate, to Bisrat Radio.

The authority has announced that action will be taken against individuals who slaughter chickens in unsanitary places and that the public should not slaughter chickens in places where chickens are slaughtered.

The official said that the control work will continue until the Epiphany holiday and urged the public to shop from establishments that have obtained the authority’s qualification certificate and to ensure that the products’ service period has not expired when conducting holiday shopping. If they see illegal practices during shopping, they should call the institution’s toll-free hotline 8864 and report it to the nearest law enforcement agency, Ato Estefanos Getachew added to Bisrat Radio.
